Snoop Dogg’s History with Trump

Over the years, he had publicly criticized the president in interviews, music, and public appearances. In 2011, Snoop mocked Trump at a Comedy Central roast. Years later in 2017, his “Lavender” music video depicted a clown version of Trump being shot.

In a 2020 interview on Big Boy’s Neighborhood, Snoop criticized Trump’s presidency. “I ain’t never voted a day in my life, but this year I think I’m going to get out and vote because I can’t stand to see this punk in office one more year,” he said. However, by January 2024, his stance had shifted.

He famously stated, “Donald Trump? … He ain’t done nothing wrong to me. He has done only great things for me. He pardoned Michael Harris. So, I have nothing but love and respect for Donald Trump.”

Michael “Harry-O” Harris, a key figure in Death Row Records’ early days, was granted clemency by Trump in 2021, one of his final acts before leaving office during his first term.

Snoop, who had been signed to the label and later acquired it in 2022, acknowledged the pardon as a defining moment in his change of opinion. Snoop wasn’t the only artist to perform at the inaugural events.

Who Else Took the Stage?

Alongside Snoop at the Crypto Ball were rapper Rick Ross and Soulja Boy, both of whom delivered their own sets. Their performances added to the night’s entertainment as attendees celebrated ahead of the official swearing-in.

The inaugural celebrations continued with more performances at the Liberty Ball, where country stars Jason Aldean and Billy Ray Cyrus took the stage. Another renowned rapper was also among the featured performers, making his appearance at the event another standout moment of the night.

Nelly’s Performance and Military Connection

Before taking the stage at the Liberty Ball, rapper Nelly attended the Commander in Chief Ball. During the event, he took photos with military officers and personally thanked them for their service.

Born on a military base, the rapper has several family members who served in the armed forces and has previously spoken about his deep appreciation for the military.

In a past Veterans Day post, he shared a photo of his parents and wrote, “It’s very important that I thank all of our men and women across this country for their service.”

For his Liberty Ball performance, Nelly took the stage in a suit and opened with “Hail to the Chief” before transitioning into his biggest hits, including “Ride Wit Me” and “Hot in Herre.” His dancers, initially dressed as Secret Service agents, later switched to wearing hats emblazoned with “USA.”

Throughout the evening, he was seen engaging with attendees and embracing the patriotic theme of the event. After the event, Nelly made it clear that his participation was not political. “I’m not doing this for money. I’m doing this ’cause it’s an honor. I respect the office,” he stated.

He went on to say, “It don’t matter who is in office [sic]. The same way that our men and women, our brothers and sisters who protect this country, have to go to war and have to put their life on the line for whoever [is] in office.[..] I can damn sure perform for whoever [is] in office.”

A source close to Nelly emphasized that his decision to perform was rooted in respect for the institution, not political affiliation. The source explained Nelly’s aunts and uncles all served in the military “for our democracy and the right for us all to vote.”

According to the source, “He has personally stayed away from politics and wouldn’t participate in campaigning for anyone, but this performance is for the highest office.”

Following his set, Nelly reflected on the experience, calling it an honor. “It was an honor to have performed for the highest office in the greatest nation,” he said. “Now we look to the president to step up, serve, and lift us all.”

As the celebrations came to a close, the performances remained a key highlight of the inaugural festivities, marking a memorable night for those in attendance.
